Final Reflection

Image
1) Read through your posts from this semester. Recall all of the experiences you've had a long the way -- the highs, the lows -- the fun moments, and the moments of drudgery, and even the moments of dread. I dreaded watching the lectures, and my cupcake grades have suffered. I'm so disappointed in myself that I didn't stay on top of it. The fun moments I had was making my opportunity belief develop into something very valuable.  2) What sticks out to you as the most formative experience? The experience that you'll remember years later? What was your most joyous experience? What experience are you most proud of yourself for accomplishing? The most formative experience was definitely the elevator pitch. Because of all the elevator pitch practicing, I am able to speak confidently in front of other professional people.  3) At the beginning of the semester, I mentioned that I wanted each of you to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. Now, at the end, do you se...

Your Exit Strategy

Image
1) Identify the exit strategy you plan to make. Do you intend to sell your business in the next 5 years for a large return? Do you intend to stay with the business for several decades and retire? Do you intend to protect the venture as a family business, and pass it down to your children? I'm going to set goals for myself as well as for the business. I'm going to establish a value for the business. I guard my business as well as its value. I will write it all down. I'll plan my personal wealth as well as estate. I'll plan for my life after the business. I'll probably do a business transfer, possibly to a family member or maybe not.  2) Why have you selected this particular exit strategy? Because it seems realistic, and I don't wan to wait until it's too late. It's so I can plan for disaster as well. Succession planning will be necessary. With the business transfer type exit strategy, I can transfer the business without issues.  3) How do you t...

1)        What was the general theme or argument of the book? The book I chose was "The Art of Social Media" by Guy Kawasaki. Tips on making the best of social media presence. 2)        How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? That I need to build my foundation, my resources, attract people to my idea, etc. 3)        If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve? What brand does social media best? Ask everyone around the room who they think has the best brand voice. 4)        What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations? "Pursuing your passions makes you more interesting, and interesting people are enchanting."

Celebrating Failure

Tell us about a time this past semester that you failed -- whether in this class, or outside of this class. Don't spare any details! It'd be even better if there was something you tried several times this semester, and failed each time. I have failed on keeping up with watching the lectures on time. I for some reason was good at scheduling out my other classes’ assignments and even the assignments in this class. However, I for some reason wouldn’t/couldn’t find the time to watch the lectures at a time that was convenient. By the time I did watch the lectures, it would literally be maybe a few hours before the cupcake was due. Because of this, I had to skip around or speed up the lectures. In result, my grades in cupcakes started to go down as the semester went on.   Tell us what you learned from it.   I learned that I need to put everything on a calendar, not just some assignments. Even when I think I’ll make time to watch the lecture, it doesn’t happen bec...

Many addicts can’t rent an apartment and buy a home because of their criminal charges. They also probably don’t have any money. They are starting again from the bottom. Halfway houses give those addicts a chance to start over. They can pay weekly and they will be given drug tests and curfews so that they learn how to be productive members of society. Existing Market Interviews: I interviewed  5 businesses: Charleys in Tampa, Cheeksecake Factory in Tampa, Berns in Tampa, PF Changs in Clearwater, and Ocean Prime in Tampa . The reason is because they already do drug testing for every employee, and offer a drug training program to every employee. In result, the company has a very low turnover rate. These specific businesses had the same answers as each other: I asked them if they currently drug test, and they said yes. I asked them if they had a drug abuse training program in place. They said yes, they do it themselves. I asked what does their training program offer. Then I...

Your Venture's Unfair Advantage

1. 20,000 dollars. Valuable because I need it to start. 2. Brice Maddock. CEO of Teen Challenge recovery center. Valuable because he has industry experience. 3. Carrie Smith. She owns many halfway houses locally. Valuable because she’s a mentor. 4. Brian Peddle, CEO of Salvation Army (thrift store). Valuable because we are able to help each other out. Inimitable as well. 5. Developer Bootcamp. Valuable as learning is an investment. 6. Customer Development. Valuable because without it, I will fail. 7. Donors as a customer segment. Valuable because that’s how this business will start up. 8. Volunteers. Valuable and rare. Not many people will work for free but the ones that do, believe in this business. 9. Conducting customer discovery interviews.   Valuable so I know what to do and what not to do in my startup business. 10. Pass/fail experiments.   Valuable so I know what doesn’t work. My top resource is the money. Without it, I can’t use all my res...

Elevator Pitch No. 3

Image
Hello everyone. My name is Kimberly Palo. Today I’m going to reflect on my last pitch. I received some positive feedback as well as constructive criticism.   What stood out to me was the good feedback I received which was saying that I was dressed professionally. I believe that first impressions are important because everything I say might not be heard because the listener doesn’t want to listen to someone who looks like they don’t take them seriously as well as their own selves seriously. I got some great feedback where I see I need improvement. I was told I talk too fast and that I should work on my pacing. I’m not surprised as I do that a lot when I’m nervous and especially being in front of a camera. I’m hoping by doing these elevator pitch videos, that I can slow down, and stay the same pace. I think I can keep the viewer’s attention interested and longer this way. What I changed this time around is that I’ve slowed down. I’m working on my pitch as well as my pacin...

1)       What was the general theme or argument of the book? The book I chose was “Miracles Happen” by Mary Kay Ash. She lends her life experiences to offer guidance for anyone who wishes to succeed. 2)       How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? That no matter the struggles that may come our way, we can do it anyway. We don’t give up. 3)       If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve? The exercise would be to stop judging people. Every time someone does something that would make me want to judge them, tell myself to think something positive about them instead. 4)       What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations? “I believe that public rec...
