What's Your Secret Sauce?

1)      Describe five ways in which you think you have human capital that is truly unique.  What is it about you, exactly, that makes you different? Write this up in a detailed list.  My ability to set a good example to others. My ability to remain selfless no matter what happens. My ability to welcome trials and tribulations. My ability to stay accountable and take responsibility. My ability to help others grow around me and to encourage everyone to be a leader.   2)      Interview the five people who know you the best.  Ask them what they think makes  you  different -- remember, focus on your knowledge, skills, abilities, emotions -- in other words, your human capital. Try to stay away from discussing your other types of capital (such as who you know). Record each interview. In your post, please post each interview, as well as a two-three sentence summary of each interview, explaining what your...

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 2

1)      Find three people who would fit that segment and arrange to interview them.  The first person I interviewed was someone who just got out of jail three days ago who needs a place to live. The second person I interviewed was someone who just graduated from a 6 month in patient treatment program who now needs a place to live. The third person In interviewed was someone who just got out of a 1 week in patient drug detox facility. 2)      Begin with alternative evaluation.  In the last case exercise, you determined how customers sought information related to solving their need. The outcome of this step is to produce a set of alternatives. Customers pick from among this set of alternatives. In this step, your job is to figure out how they do their picking. Does price matter the most? Does quality? Does style? Is there more than one factor that is important to your customer segment? Price and location seem to matter the mo...

Halfway Reflection

1)      Tenaciousness is a competency.  What are the behaviors that you have used (or developed) to keep up with the requirements of this course?  I would say that you should definitely keep a daily journal. This way you can see how much time you’ve invested in a specified time frame. Another behavior would be to plan in advance – like at least a week in advance. This way you can get the annoying little prepping steps out of the way so you can focus on the task at hand. Another behavior would be to color coordinate your tasks and time on your calendar. This will help with time management. Another behavior is to not do it all on your own. Ask someone to keep you accountable. The last behavior I suggest is to end the day at a decent time. There’s only so much you can do in a day. Tomorrow’s a new start. Give yourself a break. 2)      Tenaciousness is also about attitude.  Talk about a moment or two when you felt like "giving ...

1) You read about an entrepreneur: Brian Halligan What surprised you the most? He was a successful entrepreneur with many businesses thriving before he turned 30 years old. What about the entrepreneur did you most admire? He didn’t put all his eggs in one basket. He had many different services he offered with each business. He had his marketing firm as well as his coworking space as well as his investment firm, social apps, etc.   What about the entrepreneur did you least admire? His lack of empathy towards people. He was bad at showing compassion. He was all business and only talked to someone who might benefit him. He was cheap and I believe he overpriced people at times. Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity and failure? If so, what did they do about it? Yes, his coworking space had high turn over at first until he started adding more incentives. 2) What competencies did you notice that the entrepreneur exhibited? He was able to m...

Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1

1) Pick a segment. In class, we have discussed how you might intuit the existence of segments that might exist in your venture's market. For this exercise, you must pick one segment.   For this assignment, I chose a segment of people who want to open up halfway houses for struggling addicts who want to stay clean. 2) Find three people who would fit that segment and arrange to interview them. These interviews, if conducted properly, should take about 10-15 minutes. Any less, and you won't be able to obtain adequate information. I know three people who have at least 15 plus years clean who have the funds to buy property to rent them out to struggling addicts. They are in the 12step program that I am currently a member of as well. They took at least 20 minutes each to interview them because I had many questions to ask them to see if they even wanted to do it and had the clean background and funds to make it happen. I also was looking for if they had money manag...

1) You. Who you are. What your talents are. What your skills and experiences are. Also: what are your aspirations? Specifically regarding your business concept, how do you see this business (if you were to start it) playing a role in your life? My name is Kimberly Palo. I’m a combined degree student at the University of Florida majoring in Telecommunication and hoping to be accepted into the Master’s program for the Social Media track MAMC. My talent is my charisma, my social presence, my communication skill, my ability to get along with others. My talent is changing other people’s minds. This business will play a role in my life because I am a recovering addict with 3 years and 7 months clean. So, I know first hand what addicts are struggling with, and I can help them.   2) What are you offering to customers? Describe the product or service (in other words, how you'll solve customers' unmet needs). With our workplace drug abuse awareness training program, bus...

Testing the Hypothesis, Part 2

Image
5 Interviews: I interviewed 5 businesses that are outside my boundary: Charleys in Tampa, Cheeksecake Factory in Tampa, Berns in Tampa, PF Changs in Clearwater, and Ocean Prime in Tampa . The reason is because they already do drug testing for every employee, and offer a drug training program to every employee. In result, the company has a very low turnover rate. These specific businesses had the same answers as each other: I asked them if they currently drug test, and they said yes. I asked them if they had a drug abuse training program in place. They said yes, they do it themselves. I asked what does their training program offer. Then I saw an opportunity even with those outside our boundary. I told them what our training program offers so they know the value of why they have the option to switch from their own program to hiring our workplace drug program instead.   Inside the Boundary             ...
